ABERDEEN, S.D. –A culture’s music tells its story. At a concert performed by the Emilia Amper Band in April, Aberdeen will get to experience tales from Sweden, the string ensembles home country. Vocalist and musician Emilia Amper will lead the group as they light up the stage with their vibrant musical energy. A Grammy-award winner, Emilia is known around the world for her talents on the nyckelharpa, or key harp, an instrument that has been a part of Swedish folk music for hundreds of years.

Aberdeen is the group’s only stop in South Dakota as they travel on the Folkefest Tour through Arts Midwest. They will perform at various schools and venues before finishing their week-long residency with a public concert at 7:30 PM on April 12 at the ARCC Library Auditorium. Emilia’s visit to Aberdeen is meant to bring joy through music and a deeper understanding of Nordic traditions and history. // — Jenny Roth
