Aberdeen Magazine From The News Desk New 1 Scaled

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem visited Aberdeen on June 24 to deliver news about the South Dakota Local Government COVID Recovery Fund, which is a part of the CARES Act. This fund was established to provide aid to communities around South Dakota as they continue to work through the ongoing pandemic. Noem specifically said the money from the fund could not be used to recover business losses. She says it can only be used for Personal Protective Equipment, extra testing supplies and equipment, shelters for those who became exposed to the virus, and emergency responses that required extra work.

For the Aberdeen community, $6,388,224 has been granted. Mayor Travis Schaunaman says part of the money will go towards covering the expenses of protective equipment and overtime of the Aberdeen Police Department. As for the rest of the money, it hasn’t been decided where the funds will go yet.
