Dr. Jason Spjut demonstrates how to apply a tourniquet at the 100th Stop the Bleed course.

Stop the Bleed taught its 100th class in Aberdeen on Jan. 31. This one-hour course is designed to teach the public how to recognize and control life-threatening bleeding until help arrives. Dr. Jason Spjut and Dr. Amy Hiuser from Sanford lead the courses in the Aberdeen area and are passionate about giving the community the opportunity to learn life-saving skills in case of emergencies such as car and farming accidents and injuries from bad weather. Stop the Bleed courses have been taught at every public and private school in Aberdeen and a Stop the Bleed kit has been placed in every school in South Dakota. // —Josie Clemens
