Aberdeen Area Pride will be hosting their annual Pride event in a new location this summer.

Pride will be held from March 31 to June 2 at City Lights Bar and Event Center. Friday’s Pride Festival Art Show and karaoke will be held at the Red Rooster Coffee House. Applications for the art show will be open until May 10 and is open to artists from South Dakota, North Dakota, and Minnesota.

On Saturday, vendors will set up booths at City Lights, in addition to educational talks about the history of LGBTQ community and provide resources for parents of queer children. Later in the day, the Afternoon Drag Show will be held at 3:00 PM. After a short break, the festivities continue with the 21+ Drag Show. Doors open at 7:00 PM and the show begins at 8:00 PM.

On Sunday, the 18+ Drag Show Brunch will be held at 11:00 AM.

“We moved things to City Lights to keep everything contained, concise, and off the street, as one lane of traffic was still open,” President John Schwab said.

Aberdeen Area Pride is also introducing the Tim Husom Pride Scholarship, which is available to LGBTQ+ students living in Aberdeen. Applications for the Fall 2024 school year will be accepted soon.

The first Pride event in Aberdeen was held in 2021 and was organized by Megan Snow. In 2023, Schwab took over as president.

“Last year going into this year, I’ve noticed a positive, uplifting rise in support of the LGBTQ+ community, and that’s been very nice to see,” Schwab said. //
