United Way Hits New Funding Milestone

The United Way of Northeastern South Dakota (UWNESD) recently concluded its annual fundraising campaign, surpassing all expectations and setting a new record. With a goal of $750,000, the campaign reached a new milestone by raising over $800,000, thanks to the dedication and hard work of campaign chairs Brett and Laura Deibert family.

Brett Deibert summarized the experience, “The success of this campaign is not just about numbers; it’s a testament to the spirit of unity and compassion that defines the communities of Northeastern South Dakota. Through the collective efforts of businesses, volunteers, and individuals, UWNESD has demonstrated the power of coming together, neighbors helping neighbors.”

What sets UWNESD apart is its commitment to keeping funds raised within the local community. Currently, UWNESD supports 18 agencies and 29 programs, ranging from childcare to senior services, ensuring that vital support reaches those who need it most.

But UWNESD is about more than just addressing immediate needs; it’s about creating lasting change. Aaron Schultz, Executive Director of UWNESD explains, “By focusing on the bigger picture and investing in initiatives that go beyond single-issue solutions, UWNESD lays the groundwork for a stronger, more resilient community. This approach acknowledges that true progress requires addressing root causes and building capacity for long-term success.”

During a Thank You Event held in March, UWNESD celebrated the achievements of the 2023/24 Campaign season and recognized the outstanding contributions of its supporters. Three businesses—Insurance Plus, Farm Credit Services of America, and Horton Inc.—were honored with the ‘Give from the Heart Award’ for their exceptional generosity and significant percentage increase from the previous year’s campaign.

Additionally, two volunteers, Jodi Wiegel and Kristen Gruenstein from the South Dakota Department of Labor, were recognized for their dedication and enthusiasm in facilitating their company campaigns. Their passion and commitment exemplify the spirit of community engagement that drives UWNESD forward.

As we celebrate this remarkable milestone, let us not forget the impact that each donation, volunteer hour, and act of kindness has on our community. Together, we have shown that when we combine our resources and work towards a common goal, we can create permanent and positive change that uplifts entire communities. The success of UWNESD’s fundraising campaign is not just a reflection of financial achievement; it’s a testament to the power of unity, compassion, and collective action. //
