The Sweat Zone: Bringing the Heat

It’s a crisp rainy morning when I pull up to The Sweat Zone on Main Street, but owner Christine Keller is all sunshine as she greets me for a tour of her new hot fitness studio.

Keller purchased the former Silver Dollar Bar building at 119 South Main in July, and with some help from her family, immediately set to work giving the space new life. By the time this issue hits newsstands, The Sweat Zone will be open for business, offering high intensity interval training (HIIT), Pilates, cycling and yoga classes in two state-of-the-art hot fitness studios.

“I’ve always been into fitness, whether that was sports, dance or exercise classes,” Keller said. “I’ve always wanted to teach, but it was hard when my kids were little. Now they’re older and it’s all falling into place. My past experiences are coming together into this one dream.”

Keller started teaching hot HIIT classes three years ago, and quickly developed a following of like-minded friends inspired by her upbeat attitude and desire to bring all ages and abilities into her classes. When the opportunity arose to open her own studio, Keller and her husband Lee jumped at the chance to make her dream a reality.

“I think exercise is fun, and I want to share that with people,” Keller said. “I want to help motivate others and build a community here, where everyone feels welcomed. It’s also exciting to open this business as a family.”

Lee And Christine KellerWhile construction on The Sweat Zone took most of the summer, Keller kept right on teaching classes – hosting free strength classes in local parks and donation-based classes to raise funds for special events like the Out of the Darkness Walk. The regular classes scratched her itch to teach and helped her try out new workouts for The Sweat Zone.

As a new face on Main Street, Keller is excited to contribute to the downtown community and take part in the lively atmosphere of downtown events. She’s ready to introduce the many benefits of hot workouts to curious newcomers and welcome back devotees who swear by the hot rooms.

Working out in a controlled hot studio can increase blood flow, improve flexibility, improve cardiovascular endurance and support joint health. Keller sees benefits for people of all ages and abilities to experience the hot studios, whether that’s through a pulse-pounding strength class or a low impact chair yoga session.

Unlimited monthly memberships are available, as well as day passes, with discounted prices for military members, students, teachers, health care workers and first responders. Unable to make a scheduled class time? The Sweat Zone will also offer open studio times for members to work out on their own while still receiving the benefits of the hot room.

“I’m most excited for our talented group of teachers to come on board and bring their passion to the studio,” Keller said. “We’re building a positive, safe environment for people to come work out in any form and get all the benefits of exercising in the hot room. We’re going to make fitness fun!” //
