Community involvement has always been important to Kristan Morris.
She is the president of the Aberdeen Sertoma club and serves as a board member for Aberdeen Parks and Recreation, the Aberdeen Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Aberdeen Area Community Foundation, the Avera St. Luke’s Regional Council, and acts as the CVB Liaison on the Chamber Commerce board.
Born and raised in Aberdeen, Morris graduated from Roncalli and went to Northern State University for her undergrad. Hub City Radio was her first radio job, and she began working there as a salesperson.
For the past nine years, she has been the sales manager at Hub City Radio. Morris oversees sales at the station and helps her team come up with ideas for their clients to help businesses in Aberdeen grow.
Morris gives back to our community in many ways, and one of her most notable projects was the Small Act Big Impact fundraiser.
“I came up with the idea right when COVID hit,” she said.
The fundraiser, which was a promotion between Hub City Radio and the Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce, was a radiothon where callers could purchase gift cards to Chamber-member businesses. Each gift card was matched, so a person purchasing a $25 gift card would get an additional $25 for free.
“We did it all live on the radio,” Morris said. “People called in, we took orders over the phone, and we took almost 1,700 phone calls.”
Last year, her passion for the Aberdeen community was recognized when she was one of the 4 Under 40 winners.

My favorite place to go in Aberdeen is Storybook Land. My kids and I spend a lot of our free time in the summer at Storybook Land. - What is one word you would use to describe yourself? Why?
The word “giving” describes me because I feel I have a natural inclination to share my time, skills, and resources to help others. My ability to give—whether that’s offering guidance, assistance, or kindness—demonstrates a deep sense of empathy and a desire to make a positive impact. - Why is community involvement important to you?
When we invest in our communities, we foster relationships that help individuals and businesses thrive. It’s about giving back, sharing knowledge, and collaborating to create positive change. I like to problem solve and am a take action type of person. - What are some ways that people can help their community?
Be present where you are at, be engaged in conversations and listen to what your community needs and wants. If you can help fill one of those needs or wants don’t be afraid to speak up. Always be willing to give your time, talent and treasure. There are so many ways to get involved. Most importantly don’t wait for someone to ask you, when something piques your interest ask how you can help or be involved.
