Slow Cooker BBQ Chicken Legs

This recipe is a crowd favorite. I first stumbled on a version of this recipe several years ago and since tinkered with it to get what I make now. It’s an easy dish to make since it just has to sit in a slow cooker, and most of the work happens before and after. I bring it to family gatherings, holiday parties, and when I find myself with lots of chicken!

  • Pour the root beer in. It should cover most, if not all the chicken in the slow cooker. Add BBQ sauce on top, cover, and cook on low for about 4 hours.
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Remove chicken from slow cooker and place on baking sheet. Drizzle or brush more BBQ sauce on the chicken, flip, and repeat.

  • Sprinkle the top of the chicken with brown sugar, and broil in the oven for about 10 minutes.
  • Serve and enjoy!

Notes

You can use about any type of bone-in chicken for this recipe, as long as it’s roughly 4 pounds. If you need more, you can double the recipe, but you will need a larger slow cooker. If you’re making these for a party, I’d recommend using party-size wings.
