ANGEL “POCHY” CASANOVA made the move from Puerto Rico to Aberdeen eight years ago. He had been invited to a church service at Iglesia Casa de Adoracion y Oracion and felt connected to the Aberdeen community.
“Puerto Rico isn’t a great place to live right now, so we decided to move and start fresh,” Casanova said.
In 2021, he opened Blessing Cuts. Back in Puerto Rico, Casanova worked as a barber for 13 years and had his own shop there as well.
Being a barber isn’t just about cutting hair for Casanova – it’s also a way for him to connect with people through his other passion. Casanova has been a pastor for five years, and through Blessing Cuts, he has been able to talk more about the word of God with others.
“People like the atmosphere,” he said. “People ask me to pray for them, and it’s very nice. People see my business grow and respect it, and I’m always grateful for that.”

Kiadily Santiago works alongside Casanova at Blessing Cuts.
- How does your work reflect your passion?
I like being a barber, but preaching the word of God is my passion. Barbers have to dedicate their time to people. It’s not just cutting hair, they have to be comfortable too. You have to know your clients and make connections with them.
- What is something you love about the Aberdeen community?
I like the people. I always say that the people here are very nice, and I appreciate all they’ve done for me.
- What do you like to do in your free time?
I’m a family man. My free time is for my family. I’m a pastor and a barber, but I’m also a husband and a dad. My free time’s also for fishing.

Recently, Blessing Cuts moved into its new location at 603 Riverside Drive.
- Where is one of your favorite places to go in Aberdeen?
Khunert Arboretum. I always go there and connect with God.
- Why is community involvement important to you?
It’s important to make connections. Someone knows someone, and we can help each other out. People support me here, so I support them. That’s why we’re here. Aberdeen’s a small community, but it’s nice. If we work together, we can do more.
- How can people help small businesses in Aberdeen?
A lot of people have small businesses, and people don’t always use them. They can’t always compete with large companies, so it’s important to support each other…
