Miss South Dakota Scholarship Program Celebrating 75 Years

Miss South Dakota

This year, the Miss South Dakota Scholarship Program is celebrating 75 years!

The Miss South Dakota Scholarship Program is a non-profit organization that awards scholarship dollars to outstanding young women in our state to help advance them academically and professionally. Participants have gone on to achieve major success in diverse fields including medicine, law, business, broadcast journalism, theater, politics, literature and so much more.

The Miss South Dakota Competition is an official preliminary of the Miss America Competition, the nation’s leading achievement program and the world’s largest provider of scholarship assistance to young women. Participation in this program provides young women with the opportunity to promote a platform of community service, share their talents, intelligence, and positive values while serving as role models in their communities.

The Miss South Dakota Scholarship Program operates under the Miss America Organization stressing individuality, personal development, and communication skills.

The Miss America Organization is one of the nation’s leading achievement programs and the nation’s largest provider of scholarship assistance to young women. This program promotes women empowerment, educational assistance, personal and professional development with their mission to “prepare great women for the world and the world for great women.” This past December the Miss America Organization celebrated their 100-year anniversary!

Each titleholder within the Miss America Organization is tasked with developing a social initiative that they advocate during their year of service. Mckenzie Hassebroek, a senior at Northern State University majoring in psychology and sociology with a minor in social work, focuses on bringing awareness to the services of the TRIO program as well as advocates for first-generation college student mental health through her Social Impact Initiative “Turning Roadblocks into Opportunities.”

Over the next year of service, Mckenzie will have the opportunity to share her social initiative with others but also will have the opportunity of lifetime competing for the title of Miss South Dakota 2022 as she represents the Hub City!

The 75th anniversary of the Miss South Dakota Scholarship Competition in conjunction with the Miss South Dakota’s Outstanding Teen Competition will be held at the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center at South Dakota State University in Brookings June 2 – 4. Tickets for the show are now available on the Miss South Dakota website, https://www.misssd.org.

You can contact Mckenzie through her social media platforms or email at [email protected].
